Rig's wretch of a brother has just run off to alope leaving their father in quite a debt. With no money their only option is to work the debt off. Rig's father is the black smith in Bule, a small remote village. Rig has grown strong learning her fathers trade. So she disguise herself as one of her brothers to pay back the debt. What she doesn't account for is a war brewing in the north that has come to claim young men including one Ryleigh Riggen a country smiths son or so the men around her think. 

There's been talk of Yern and the beasts that protect its border. There's been villages attacked and many young men and women have disappeared. Rig has no business going to war. She has no business in traveling with men. But it wont be so easy for her to escape. Not when The Lord's son as decided she be his squire.

Will that love prevail through endless dangers and the fact that even if the Darklens are defeated, the law won't allow it?
