A Forgotten Tail -A mermaid story

A boat swayed peacefully just of the coast of Australia on a full moon night. A faint glow stretched from the center of the small vessel... a lantern. Small articles of food lay randomly around it. And on one side sat a newly wedded couple laughing at each others stories. Their laughter carried out for miles above and below the water, and it gave hope to one creature lurking in the depths. As the night went on the couples' laughter failed to diminish, until something hit the boat. They paused and looked around in confusion. After a moment of silence they resumed their night.
