Emma Clarke's father has been gone for a month. She doesn't know anything about the whole affair, just two facts:

1. He left on a train.
2. Nobody seems to be doing anything to solve her mystery.

Every day at sunset, she waits at the station for the evening stop, and searches the crowd for her father, if he comes back at all.

But someone new to the town of Eldridge has arrived, and Emma learns that their ties go deeper than she'd ever have imagined...

The child population is at an all time low because of the increases of deadly diseases. She finds friends in the warehouse but 3 months later, she is on a journey to find her brother and send him away for his own safety and go to Los Angeles to join the rebellion with the girl that once hated her and the first friend she made in the warehouse. Along the way, they discover the truth of why they have the abilities they have, the reason behind The WildFires, and what the labs that put them through hell has actually done. As romances grow and situations start to evolve, the only question on her mind is can she save the only family she has left?
