Cynestol means 'throne' in old English.
Ethelbert- after being coronated King of Cantaware Rīce (the kingdom of Kent) - marries Bertha- the Christian daughter of Charibert- king of the Franks to stregthen ties with the Brits.
But the monogamy always stays void of affection.
Throughout their marriage, King Ethelbert goes through different paramours. The kitchen maids gossip on his escapades but don't dare mention anything to Queen Bertha.
But when a paramour- Anna- gets impregnated. Ethelbert's secrets come out, and he is forced to turn Anna away with a reference so she can begin work in Urdenburgh- in east Anglia.
Bertha isn't fazed, from the beginning she'd had notions about Ethelbert's paramours
Eighteen years later, Bertha, hangs herself- not being able to bear Edgar's(her son) illness. With no wife and no heir to the cynestol- because Edgar is dying. Ethelbert has no choice but to send Arthur Grove- his trustee knight to find Anna's child.
With malicious adversaries closing in fast, the Normans have conquered the lands in East Anglia. And are getting closer to the West, Cantaware Rīce might not be saved in time. Or will it?
(A/N) Paramour means: Lover
