This is a poem that I wrote about the sinking of the Korean ferry MV Sewol. I meant to post this on April 16th, which was the two year anniversary of the ferry sinking, but I didn't get the chance too. But, I felt like I should still share it anyway because I very proud of this poem, and this is my way of finding some closure after the event. Because although I don't live in Korea, and I'm not physically connected to anyone who was on that ferry, I am very emotionally connected, because my heart always goes out to absolutely everyone affected by any disaster, so this is my way of expressing grief. Whenever I'm upset, I express myself through my writing. Thank you for reading <3

My Poetry Escape
I may just be a girl. No one special. Nothing compared to others. In the eyes of the universe, I am just a little speck of dust. My light may not shine very bright, and it may not be of any use, but I am me. Writing is my only escape out of this world. I cry rivers of ink and climb mountains of words. I write and write, To my heart's desire, New feelings erupt, By the hour. Writing is, My one escape, In this cruel and careless world, I have the power, to awake. "A Story Without Words" A story told, In a little tune, A golden smile, And a shining tear, Rolling down my cheek. A little breeze, The nice sun, A marvelous day, Turned into a wet one. The memories dripped, Down on my cotton white shirt, Leaving stains, On my malicious heart. Your smile, Worth a thousand words, Can't cheer up This depressive mind. A storm bewildered, Your indecisive mind, Drowning me, In my reckless thoughts. A rainy day, A gleaming lie, A story not told, With words Nor sounds. This story is, But a mere thought, In this universe We share, Every night. This story is, A withering storm, Drifting off, In this careless soul. Mv Sewol Ferry Disaster Memorials Part 2
Continuing my previous book.. part 1 here: https://www.wattpad.com/story/223998001-mv-sewol-ferry-disaster-memorials-part-1 Mv Sewol sunk on the 16th of April, 2014 at the Yellow Sea. It was carrying 405 passangers, most of them being from Danwon High school, Ansan City. Only 172 survived. The students spent their time recording videos and joking around, but as the water came in, their survival instinct did too. Bruised/bloodied fingers, tied together life vests.. they show the desperation the students had. Even the surviving students were screaming ''Break the windows! My friends are in there!'' The students inside the ferry either drowned or died of hypothermia. They drowned in the dark, desperate for life. This is a memorial for those students, teachers, passangers and crew, whose lives were lost, and dreams were sunk as a result of this disaster. One Thousand Tears
I've tried to release this pain in so many different ways; But writing about you seems to be one of my faves. I don't understand how I find closure When I know it only lasts until the poem is over. Somehow it feels like some sort of imaginary relief to my reality. As if, the pain I feel only exists until the words are free.
