"It's been a while," I said as I sat beside Camelle. "How have you been?"
     "Fine," she answered bitterly.
     I turned to face her. "What's wrong?" My eyebrows were furrowed due to the concern I felt for her.
     With a manic laugh, she shook her head. "Nothing." Her voice, though filled with laughter, was cold.
     I grabbed her face in both hands. "How can I convince you to tell me?" I whispered as I stared into her eyes, which were shining with tears.
     She pulled from my grip. "You don't need to do anything," she murmured, "because there's nothing that can be done once you find out."
     "Camelle," I said in a gentle way, knowing it was the best way to convince her. "I would do anything for you. You know that."
     "Of course I know that, Raia," she replied, hardness colouring her voice. Sadness was evident as she said, "But there's nothing you can do to save someone who is already dead."
