It's been thousands of years since the comet that wiped the dogs out occurred. Other species have slowly gone extinct, too. House cats, rabbits, sloths - all gone. All that's left are the mammoths, dragons, dinosaurs, and other creatures.

Wolf, named for the fictional creature, is a boy that loves his animals. He has several dragons, a sabertooth tiger, and of course, a dinosaur for getting around places. When he comes in contact with a leather bound journal with what looks like a lion, he realizes that the animals he thought were fictional were actually real beings that might still be out there. The book includes a map that leads to one of the deepest parts of the Cascade Mountain Range.

Along the way, Wolf encounters animals he thought never would have existed and he learns their secrets from a race of people that are so exclusive, no one has heard of them.
