Legend says that long ago, nine Sage-Kings introduced magic into the world. Each of these men had been gifted with a different ability to bend to their will: Ember, Aqua, Terra, Air, Static, Nether, Radiance, Psych, and Transmutation. After a lifetime of great adventures and epic feats, age inevitably overtook the Sage-Kings. However, their powers were not lost. It was through each man's descendants that their abilities lived on. These descendants would eventually populate the Earth, enabling their forefather's magic to be spread across the globe. Commoners would go on to name these descendants The Gifted. They were eventually placed in positions of power, leading to the establishment of nine empires; one for each ability. Prosperity ensued shortly after, sending the world into a Golden Age. This peace didn't last long though. The Aqua and Terra empires decided to join their might and use their combined power to dominate the other seven nations into their rule. It's at this point where the world state currently lies. Poverty has enveloped the Earth. Revolutions have overtaken societies which had once prospered under the rule of The Gifted. And a certain three individuals have been chosen by an unknown higher power to do something greater than they could ever have imagined...

OF KINGS AND PAWNS

84 parts Complete

Ray is low on time, luck, and hope; his only chance is an artifact that may not even exist. But upon meeting Landon, Ray is beginning to believe he might find all four. ***** Cambions are doomed to tragedy. They are weak, sickly creatures that rarely live to see their twentieth year. Ray refuses to resign himself to that fate. Upon learning of the Crimson Sheath-an artifact capable of preserving his life-Ray is prepared to fight, steal, and kill to get his hands on it. He is not prepared for Landon. Landon is an orphan with no memories of his parents, the only inheritance left to him a dagger, sleeping in a crimson sheath. Though he has no love of bloodshed and no use for a dagger, Landon isn't about to let Ray take his only link to his forgotten history, even if that means following the cambion past the edge of the world and into the shadow beyond.
