[Harry Potter Fanfiction] - Divine Glory

"A master of potions like you, Professor-have you ever concocted a brew to cure regret?"
In reply, she was met with a pair of eyes as dark and fathomless as a bottomless pit.
"Is this how you speak to your professor, Miss Bernice?"
"Yes, because you can't take points from Slytherin. You're terribly biased, always shielding your own house, aren't you?" Laurelle's smile sparkled with mischief, as though teasing the most disagreeable professor at Hogwarts was a refined art she took immense pleasure in.
Snape was struck silent, his glare cutting through her before he swept his black cloak with a flourish and strode away.

The death of my maternal grandparents was a devastating blow to my mother.
She believed they were selfish for rising against Voldemort, only to be killed by him shortly thereafter.
"Shacklebolt's parents died with honor; they were esteemed Aurors."
"Be proud of your parents' courage."
"Their sacrifice will never be forgotten."
...
My mother was breathless with these words. What her parents left behind, beyond their glory, was the orphaned plight of five small children. Uncle Kingsley, my mother's brother, had to shoulder everything, tending to the needs of his four younger siblings.
They were selfish.
My mother still believed this, until the day that girl-the only person she had ever considered a true friend during her youth at Hogwarts-departed from this world, just as exactly the same way her parents had left her behind.
They were all true Gryffindors.
