According to Greek mythology, the first humans were created with four arms, four legs, and four eyes. Zeus, fearing that they would one day take his place as ruler, split each human in half and left them to wander aimlessly around the mortal world searching for their other half, their Soulmate.
Selene and Caralye are Soulmates-they just haven't found each other yet. Every single human on earth is born with a tattoo of a seed on the inside of their wrist-but it's no ordinary tattoo, it's a Soulmark. On the day of a person's eighteenth birthday, the seed starts to grow into a tattoo of a plant, a tattoo that will act as a compass, leading a person to their Soulmate; the more it grows, the closer it a person is, to finding their other half. But there's a catch-if you don't find your Soulmate by your 21st birthday, you and your Soulmate will die. With the help of their tattoos and cryptic dreams that link them, Selene and Caralye set out from opposite sides of the world to find each other-before it's too late.

Soulmates, we're always told we have one but I haven't been so sure I do. I mean I did get my tattoo and it hasn't disappeared yet, meaning they aren't dead. I guess believing in something like that takes a lot of effort. When you first touch your soulmate (Skin to skin contact) your tattoo turns a solid color. That color is the most important color in your life at the moment you touched. In this world, there's a system to tell who your soulmate is. Nobody remembers how it happened but, one day people started getting these tattoos on their right wrist. These tattoos are a basic shape that resembles your soulmate's hair. The shape is filled in completely by the color of your soulmate's hair as well. In the center of the tattoo, there are 1-5 objects. Those objects describe what your soulmate loves to do. The shape of my tattoo always fascinated me but I've never been able to put it into words. My tattoo shape is an upside-down half-circle if instead of the bottom part being flat, it opens and curves outwards. In the center of my tattoo was a volleyball, it always was a volleyball, it's never changed once. You see naturally, people tend to change hobbies, but whoever my soulmate was, they didn't change theirs, I never changed mine either which is fascinating.
