Emma Carpenter is a classic example of a nerd. She does her homework, gets straight A's, reads all the time, and never gets in trouble. A high school experiences a power outage. The sky becomes gloomy. Possesed students roam the dark hallways. Students die after another. A large group of friends split into smaller group to find things they need for their survival. Dramatic events occur, but they still stick together.
