Lucy's parents left her life too early. Now she's alone at an orphanage. All hope is lost. Until... Igneel decides to adopt her as his own. Lucy doesn't like the idea of living with strangers, but after getting friendlier with the Dragneel's eldest son, Zeref, she decides it might not be so bad. Don't jinx yourself, Lucy. Natsu is the same age as Lucy, and for some reason, he HATES her. Is it because he doesn't like sisters? Maybe he doesn't like that she's the main attention in the house? Maybe it's her stupidly bright, annoying blonde hair? Whatever it is, he hates it, and he hates her. At school, Natsu is popular: He's handsome, smart, and totally badass. This story is shown as a completely fictional future... Natsu has only lived by the rules they gave him, he's known no other way to live but by listening and following. Not knowing of the past. Lucy's life was more tough, her life basically on the lam everyday without her knowing it. Risking her life to find any life that could be out there, or it was just a myth. Was once 1-Nalu -sorry the summary didn't explain very much- This is a NALU fanfic...mature-ish. I don't own any character, only the plot. Inspired by the amazing book "The Giver."

Natsu Dragneel was always a tough guy to get to know. He would never smile or interact with people. He never wanted friends nor did he care to have any. He grew up with a bad past. His parents abandoned him when he was still a baby. He had to learn to live on his own. Now he is in school 3rd year at Fairy Tail High. He soon will have a strange encounter with what seems to be a really nice girl moving into the next room beside him in the apartment. Lucy Heartfilia was a sweet and nice go lucky girl. Every chance she got to help people she would take that opportunity to give up some of her time for others. She had lots of friends at Sabertooth high, but her real friends go to a school in Magnolia at Fairy Tail high. When she gets there for her 3rd year she sees someone being bullied. Her neighbor. Of course she helps him but once she does she feels a bad aura surrounding this boy. She soon learns who he is and how he was never seen in a good mood. She decides to make it her mission to get him to smile if it's the last thing she does.

Lucy wakes up in a hospital. Only, no sound waves are vibrating in her ears. She's deaf, and the pink-haired guy sitting to her right saved her.
