Katie Fields has read all the books and seen all the movies about high school, so she knows how it works. The good girl, AKA her, is supposed to meet the high school bad boy and hate him, but feels a strange attraction to him despite her efforts not to. Eventually the girl discovers that beneath that tough-guy, devil-may-care exterior lies a soft and broken heart who yearns to trust someone, but is afraid of getting hurt again. Katie knows this and accepts her role in life, and sets her sights on arrogant bad boy Tony Summers.
But she doesn't feel the strong, inevitable attraction she's supposed to feel. And beneath Tony's tough guy, devil-may-care exterior lies a deep and seemingly endless pit of stupidity. Instead, one of his cronies begins to fall for her, one of the typical follow-the-bully-around, laugh-loudly-at-things-that-aren't-funny extras. He seems nice enough, but he's followed Tony around for so long that he's forgotten how to form his own opinion.
