Nobody knew why she chose Gale. Somehow, she was able to look past the horrors of the way her little sister died and learned to accept that it wasn't Gale's fault. It surprised the world.
The war ended 3 months ago, but it's never really been over for Katniss. Maybe it never will be. But when Katniss and Gale's relationship becomes toxic and dangerous, she's completely helpless. Gale walks out on her because of it, leaving her alone and paralyzed with guilt. The real war is just beginning. Soon, Peeta returns from his recovery in the Capitol expecting to find Katniss and Gale happily together. But when he finds her on the floor of her house, alone and nearly dead, he makes it his responsibility to save her. But because their relationship has grown apart, will Peeta be enough to mend the Girl on Fire when she burns herself out?

We know her story. But have you ever wondered what it was like on the home front, in District 12? This story is Gale's, his outlook on the games, his feelings about his best friend's situation, and his interactions with the people of District 12. The story is set during the time period of "The Hunger Games" (book one of the trilogy). It is written from the perspective of Gale Hawthorne, and does not concern any events in books two and three. This is my first fan fiction, my first "real" attempt at long form prose writing, and my first Wattpad story. I appreciate constructive feedback, but please, no hate. While the characters and some plot points are based off of Suzanne Collins's Hunger Games Trilogy, (which I in no way own the rights to) I have created this story using my own imagination. Please do not attempt to recreate it in any form. Additionally, if ideas in this work are similar to that of other writings, it is purely coincidental and I apologize deeply for any inconvenience. "Look, it's your favorite color." I point at the light orange of the sunset. I hear a faint rustling, and I turn over to see Peeta looking at me instead of the sky. "You remembered," he whispers. "I remember everything about you," I reply, repeating his words to me. I expect to regret my honesty, feeling like I've shared too much. But I feel like I haven't shared enough. I want to tell him everything about himself, to prove just how much I remember. But I don't. We just watch each other until the orange fades into dusky blue. ➳➳➳ In the years following the dismantling of the Hunger Games, Katniss rekindles the fire between her and Peeta. Over time, they grow back together, relearning to love every part of each other. Moving on from the war isn't easy, especially when Katniss still revisits her greatest fears and worst memories every night. But Peeta is always there, keeping the nightmares away, keeping her safe. However, though the world is changed, it will never truly be safe. ➳➳➳ The years following the war. Post canon, basically what leads to the epilogue. CW: Mild sexual content, violence, death, pregnancy, panic attacks PSA, there will be canon divergence, and the later books will get pretty dark. This was my first story and it has lots and lots of spelling mistakes so read at your own risk. Fanfiction from @always_the_hungergames (Instagram account) Katniss life has been full of pain and lose. She lost her father at 11 and had to feed her family. Volunteered for the hunger games, Twice. Become the Mockingjay, the symbol of rebellion. Won the rebellion but lost so many people along the way including her beloved little sister. Now can Katniss find peace, find her end. They have a young daughter Prim and a baby son, Finnick. Gale is miserable. life in District 2 isn't that bad. but his mental health is. Everyday guilt eats away at him. guilt of the people he couldn't save. Of people he thinks he killed. Guilt of precious friendships he's broken. He's run away from his past, which is the only thing that keeps him going. But one day it comes and knocks on his door and he's forced to redeem it as much as he can. this is the story of his downward spiral, redemption and attempts to fix his mistakes. AUTHOR'S NOTE: pretty much all of this story is from Gale's perspective. and it doesn't have a Gale x Katniss relationship, just friendship. I think that the end of Gale's story was unfulfilling. Also, my version of Gale in this book is depressed and kinda has ptsd. and lastly it gets pretty dark so you've been warned.Terminé
