So, just a disclaimer. This is an old story I wrote for my four best friends back in middle school and I wasn't very good (I'm still not that good). I've tweaked it a bit but the plot is still the same. One of my friends, who's in the book, has asked me to put this up along with the sequel for some time now. So, yeah. Enjoy. Oh! And also, the cover is just using cats to symbolize my friends and I. The book isn't actually about cats. "shit" The young girl makes eye contact with the stranger across the street before taking off into the dark forest behind her. She runs as fast as she can, dropping her previously important cargo in her desperation to get the river. She know she can't out run him for long, but she has to get her family's scent off her. She knows that he could hunt down her family because she dared to love another. She'd seen the horrors of those found to be like her, in love with another. She knew she wouldn't be able to live with herself if the monster chasing her hurt her family. The river comes into view when a bone curling growl sounds throughout the forest, shaking the trees. A few more seconds she thinks to herself, almost there. At the last step she jumps, flinging herself into the water. Frantically she scrapes at her skin to get their scents off, but knowing she can't be caught de-scenting she starting swimming down stream. Better to be caught running than them thinking you have something to hide.
