Immortality

"At some point during the twenty-fourth century, humanity had finally cracked the code to immortality. We had finally broken the curse of death. By uploading our consciousness onto a computer system, converting our own thoughts into ones and zeros, humans, it seemed, were no longer mortal. Sadie has never seen daylight. Her entire life had been ruled by the machines, which have been set out to destroy humanity. She's been trapped underground, waiting for one of two things.
