Lonely Hunter: Kira

This is the 1st chapter of my upcoming Sci Fi novel. It has gone through beta readers and an online writing workshop. It goes to my editor soon. Hope to publish in the fall. Will soon be asking for Advance Review Copy readers. Let me know if you are interested. (That's not the final cover.)

Lonely Hunter: In the 23rd Century, a forgotten colony's last 400 descendants survive as a nomadic clan. Clinging to their culture, they fight an alien race for the diminishing food supply.

Kira Hellong - the clan leader's introspective daughter - spends many a night beside their silent, deep-space beacon while she stares at the star-filled sky. She is a brilliant hunter with a unique ability to anticipate her foe's next move and a growing awareness that she can interface with their few computers simply by touching them.

When Kira is not keeping her clan fed, she yearns for a better life as she reads and rereads the books they have safeguarded for 165 years. Or she enjoys her parent's stories of their coming of age and falling in love. A maturing young woman, Kira is also falling in love and dreams of having her own family.

But when there is no more game in the forest, and the aliens hunt Kira and her clan, she embarks on an increasingly reckless campaign to avenge her mounting personal losses. She forgets her beloved night sky and thoughts of rescue. In her isolation and grief, preparing for the last battle, Kira no longer wonders what is swirling in the stars above her.

Swirling in the stars, far from Kira's doomed home world, a ruthless soldier and her fanatically loyal team fight in a much bigger war. She is a Special Forces officer with her own unique skills and with whom Kira's fate will become hopelessly intertwined. Her name is IrSaa, and she is on her own bloody mission of retribution.

End War: Two women. Two warriors. One Destiny. Loyalty and Betrayal. The wreckage of humanity will litter their passage.
