A bracelet.
More specifically an old school, elephant, wish charm bracelet.
I got it from a vender at some bazaar my ex-best friend dragged me to at sixteen.
The vender held one end and I held the other, as we tied it I was supposed to make a wish as she used her 'magic powers' to make it come true. When it was to come true, neither of us knew. The bracelet would fall off as or right after it happened.
Being naïve and a hopeless romantic, as a sixteen year old is, I wished for true love and a soul mate.
Well six years later and it's still secure on my left wrist.
Too many meaningless make out sessions and reckless boyfriends later, and the damn thing was still there. I'm pretty sure the only reason I hadn't cut it off yet was plain and simple curiosity.
Yet when I was rear ended at a stop light on my way to the first job interview that actually meant something the last thing I expected was for the stupid bracelet to go flying.
