The Oxford dictionary defines a wildflower as the following: /'wīld , flou(e)r/ noun A flower of an uncultivated variety or a flower growing freely without human intervention. This is who Calla Lily is. Her beauty is too much to comprehend. She's somehow so gentle and soft, yet undefined or restrained by anyone or anything around her. She's the literal embodiment of sunshine and joy. She makes you feel at home, all the while pulling you away from everything you've ever considered to be your comfort zone. She either reminds you of your favorite memories, or is the center of all your new ones. But Calla hasn't always lived her life this freely. Heavy circumstances have changed her over the years, and she uses her love of adventure as a way to distract her from past memories. Healing is a messy process, but she doesn't have to face it alone. During her senior road trip, Calla meets Elliot, a fellow senior from her class, but someone who (until recently) has flown under her radar all these years. He's creative, kind, intellectual, and introverted. Despite keeping herself guarded for so long, Elliot seems to break down each of her walls effortlessly. Calla is left feeling relieved, but also fearful as she senses herself becoming less callous to the world and its painful possibilities. Wildflower is a story of strength and persistence through the darkest moments of Calla's PTSD, and an amazing example of how true love and friendship can help heal any wound, no matter how deep.
