"No, of course not. You couldn't scare a puppy." I scoffed, secretly trying to change the subject. I was pretending to write, trying not to meet his gaze.

"Then what does?" He was curious and painfully patient.

"In a word? Love." It was an honest answer and I didn't wait for his reply. I got up and left, too afraid of what I knew he would say.|
