Nineteen-year-old Bruno is born in Adlington, the Mining City, one of the poorest of the Four Cities. Lucky for Bruno, he and twenty other Miners get the opportunity of a lifetime: to start a new life in Espington, the prosperous Markets City. Deep within the Pines, en route to Espington, the carriage is struck by a bomb. Miners are injured, some are killed, and Bruno notices an amber-haired Miner that may or may not have been on the carriage beforehand. 
     Getting to Espington was not easy for Bruno.
