All "abilities" (mystical, magical powers) have been taken from the planet, all except for the royal family's; however, every once in awhile, a Gifted One pops up. Beatrix Levy just happens to be a Gifted One. Most of the people in the kingdom live in poverty because of the royal family. The world has become dangerous, so many of those who are gifted become thieves, or are constantly hiding in fear of execution.
