A 3-chapter preview of Hew J. La France's first novel, 'Straight Arrow Heart'.
There has been much mystery surrounding the fire which burned down 'Leroux's Dinner Theater' back in 2008. Not a single media outlet has been able to accurately detail the events which culminated in the fire.
This is, in part, because we, the employees of 'Leroux's' kept quiet about what had occurred. But now... now we are ready to speak. To go into detail about the bizarre murders, the disappearance of Eric Reid, and even to discuss the spirit which haunted the halls of 'Leroux's Dinner Theater'. Indeed, now we are ready to tell the story of 'Straight Arrow Heart'.

(✔️) Langdon Wilkes is a reluctant - and somewhat bumbling - hunter. But because his father is the headmaster of the Institute of Paranormal Study and Prevention, just as every Wilkes before him, he hardly has a choice. That is, until he runs into, and keeps running into, Wells Hudson and his sister, Naomi. And following a near-death experience involving a vampire, Langdon can't help but be curious about Wells. Even if he clearly resents him. Wells Hudson is a hunter by circumstance. As the older sibling, and with their father driven raving mad by ghost possession, the responsibility has fallen to him to keep the Hudson family business running while protecting Naomi. And the encounter with Langdon Wilkes doesn't help matters. After all, the hunters like him are the ones that put hunters like Wells out of business. Which means he can't constantly be pulling him out of near-misses. But when Langdon's best friend is captured by vampires and Wells discovers a plot devised by the Institute headmaster himself to control creatures through a strange and obscure blood magic, things get complicated. Especially when both boys discover their feelings for each other growing. And they discover the thrill of the chase. When Daisy gets a chance to appear in a Thriller/Mystery movie, she jumps at the opportunity. She hopes this role will allow her to shake off the Writer's Block she's been having on her own mystery novel lately; as well as visit her cousins in England where the movie is being filmed. However, once the crew begins production, she gets this feeling that she and the other female actresses are being watched. When she hears about a ghost haunting the local bed-and-breakfast she and everyone are staying, the staff informs her that the "Ghost" only shows up the week of Valentine's Day. Daisy, being a skeptic, does not believe in ghosts. Not even when said ghost follows her to her room that first night. Glen has been a ghost for almost two hundred years. Whenever he's not reliving his past mistakes on the night he died, he's at his death site, now a local B'n'B, watching guests mingle and so on. When Glen meets Daisy, he feels a desire for her, the likes of which he never experienced when he was alive. So when she is staying at the Wynfrid House that week, Glen seizes his chance to share those desires with her. Even if it is only in her dreams. *For those that love The Temple of Snakes, this story is about Domino's cousin, who was mentioned in the first chapter. Domino, Mona, and their new families will make guest appearances.* P.S. Some scenes in this book can be interpreted as sexual assault and abuse. Readers be warned.

The Grand Opera Populaire was once a place of delight and entertainment and now it lies crumbled and neglected. It's once grand walls that many queued outsides its boundaries, are now seen in disgust and ridicule. Only one person stands and gazes at the building with sorrow. She is dismal that such a building that once was absolute, is now forgotten and appalled. After all the stories and tales of the theatre, she can not help but imagine. Imagine what it would have been, what it once was. What it should still be. But nothing lasts forever, not even the Grand Opera Populaire can last forever. One upon another time, the theatre held secrets of all kinds, some worse than other, some more extreme than others, some mysterious as others. But that once upon another time ended when a tragedy happened, causing a chandelier in pieces. A love story of imaginable beauty, sorrow, and horror. A story that causes a catastrophic event. A love story that led the Opera Populaire to become neglected and abandoned. A love story that was rarely told. A story of which I'm willing to tell. A story that needs to be heard.
