Carmen Van Duyn grew up with Steven Grant Rogers and James Buchanan Barnes. After being taken by HYDRA along with her friend Bucky, she suffered the same fate. Forced to become a monster, a killer, tortured into becoming an assassin for one of the most notorious organizations in history. She was given a name: Shadow.
