Rachel has been running from the Unliving for a long time which makes her hardcore on the outside as well as the inside. When she meets Caden and Tabby during an unexpected meeting with The Dead her life changes. She might learn that there are still living things out in the world that may just be worth fighting for. When Caden meets the rebellious Rachel he immediately doesn't trust her. He thinks he is capable of taking care of Tabby and himself. But when they encounter problems beyond his help he reluctantly hands the reigns over to Rachel. Can he trust her or is she just bidding her time until she finds something better? Tabby thought that the world would forever be gone to the Unliving but when Rachel, Caden and herself stumble upon an ancient secret city they find that maybe there is hope after all. Yet when they encounter a not-so-trustworthy mayor, and a handsome-as-sin general things seem to go very, very wrong.
