This is yet another narrative poem fashioned after an O. Henry short story. Like the other poems posted thus far, "After Twenty Years" is quite well known to fans of O. Henry.
The premise of "Rendezvous with Silky Bob" is that two teenage friends decide before parting ways that they will meet exactly twenty years from that exact time (10:00 pm) and that exact place (Big Joe Brady's Restaurant).
Twenty years have passed. It is the evening of the planned meeting, and it is almost 10:00 pm. Will Bob and Jimmy rendezvous as planned? Remember, this is a narrative poem written with close attention to the plot of the O. Henry story, so you now know you had better expect that a surprise ending awaits you. Can you figure out what the surprise/twist will be that only unfolds at the very end of the poem? To this question about discovering the surprise ending before it unfolds, O. Henry was known to drop hints to the very discerning reader. You might like to approach the reading of my narrative poems as you would a detective story. Sometimes hints are subtly dropped your way, and sometimes not.

The Story Of Tonight
In the fall after her high school graduation, Danielle Davis has been spending her days lying alone in her shared New York City apartment. Attempting to fill the ticking time, she fills her moments painting empty canvases and ignoring her roommate as much as she possibly can without her actually noticing. But she can only go so long without seeing her, and at their once a month lunch date her roommate brings along a guest. Maren. Excerpt: She was paler than I first remember her, wearing clothes three times larger than her own frame, little effort put into her outfit compared to the first time I met her. She looked confused too for a second, and then she leaned down to pull her sandals off, making herself comfortable in someone else's home. Maren didn't seem like the kind of girl to spontaneously show up at someone's house, maybe I had misjudged her. "Beth's not here." My face remained blank while we made eye contact, she stood up, her natural height just a little taller than my own. Her gaze settled on me, her eyebrows were slightly furrowed. Head to toe, and back again her eyes flickered. She didn't answer my statement. "I didn't think you'd be here." "I live here." After Hours
"Cool, lets go!" we jumped off his bed and ran towards his stairway, where he sat on his railing. "What are you doing?" I asked the crazy person. "Being cool," He jested just before he began to slide down his railing like a little kid. I just imagined him with a pair of shades covering his sea blue eyes, and pointing two finger shaped guns my way. Once he got to the bottom he jumped off to the side. "Your turn" He chirped to me. "Um..no I don't think so," "Come on! Don't be such a Debbie downer. I promise I will catch you," "This does not look safe" I pondered, moving slightly toward the railing. "It isn't," I widened my eyes. "Just do it, you will love it trust me," "Ugh, I think your crazy is rubbing off on me," I defeatedly stated. "Then you should be thanking me," That stupid smirk was back, and prominate through his handsome features. "And why is that," I asked quizzically. "Because crazy people live longer. Your welcome," I laughed harder than I should have to this before putting my butt on top of the railing and sliding down. Alex Rider is a spoiled arrogant jerk who is known to show up to school late and never try in class. He parents are finally done with having to pay to get him out of trying in anything. They decide to get him a tutor, but what they don't realize is they are setting their son up with the angel he's been wishing for. His tutor is a polite, sweet girl who doesn't have a mean bone in her body. Everyone is her friend, but she doesn't go out much. Just like everyone in the world, she has a chip on her shoulder that she's been trying the shake off since freshman year. "Well I'm craving... you" I suddenly hear Liam whisper in my ear from behind. I drop the menu on the table from shock. I feel his breath on my neck and it makes shivers run down my body. My breathing becomes heavy. "Yeah, well you're not getting me" I tell him sassily however my voice comes out breathless. He chuckles lowly and moves closer to me. His breath becomes more stronger and the cold air becomes more prominent. His hand trails up from my wrist up my arm. His fingers goes under my sleeves caressing every inch of my skin. I close my eyes as I let the sensation overwhelm me. Then, out of nowhere, I feel his other hand creep under my shirt. His hand reaches my hip and he massages it. I feel him lowering his face closer to my ear. "I think I already am" is all he replies back with and he kisses my ear. I let out a shaky breath.» ♧︎ Blythe Slater has faced a lot the past two years. They do say you should always keep an eye over your shoulder, especially when you know you're being hunted, but for Amelia, even an eye in every direction wouldn't be enough.
