I stood up from my chair and looked at the expectant secretary. Her hair was pulled into a tight bun and the bright gleam from her peach nails were impatiently tapping on her clip board. As i walked, I noticed everything. I heard the shrill ring of the phones, I felt Martha's longing gaze piece into my back, I gazed once at the urban setting several feet below us. The cars whizzed by with rushed drivers, always seeming to be in a hurry. So many things were buzzing and happening at once.
On the outside, I appeared calm with a steady blank expressionless face, staring straight ahead. Inside, in the depths of where my heart would lie if i had one, I felt nothing.
The dark rich mahogany doors swung open and before me stood The devil himself.
