Book 1 in The Dark Sorceress Trilogy
Kuvessa and Dhalen had been stealing to survive practically their whole lives. Their parents had died when they were very young and Kuvessa had taken up the role of both carer and protector.
But when they're in their mid-to-late teens, Kuvessa is captured by the guards while trying to protect Dhalen and thrown in a distant, high security prison for the most dangerous criminals. There, she meets an old sorcerer who decides to impart his ancient wisdom to her. Meanwhile, Dhalen is, for the first time in his life, left to fend completely for himself.
Now, it is seven years later. Kuvessa has finally broken out of prison, along with a number of friends she has made while inside, and her only goal is to reunite with her brother. However, when they finally do reconcile, they both realise how much things have changed over the years and are forced to face the horrifying truth of their seemingly perfect relationship.
