Aethalburh is sickened by the thought of arranged marriage. She may be the eldest of her two sisters and brother, but it doesn't mean that she can just be whisked away to the highest bidder. Her mother is the only parent she has, besides her step-father.

She plans to run away, with her arranged marriage only days away. She's engaged to one of the princes of the Northern kingdom of Chilrend.

Aethalburh leaves the castle, and runs into a couple of con-artists. They live on the road, and Aethalburh deems them trustworthy enough of leaving with them.

Aethalburh is taken on a seemingly everlasting adventure across her homeland, and meeting new people along the way.

Unbeknownst to her, the queen and king of her old home, Geodora, are sending the dragons that serve it to find their eldest princess. Now, it's a race to get out of the country before the dragons reach them.
