LOST: A New Perspective

Kayla-Marie Diamond Ford, better known as Kayla, Marie, or Dina (Deena). That's my name. Only my family calls me the last one.

To say I've know about the Island for a long time is an understatement. My mom and I lived there for a year. She was pregnant with my little sister, Taylor-Jayde. Mom was very much into hyphenating names. My dad knew nothing about this child. She was my only full sibling of the seven of us.

She was brought to the island on a legally bonding contract that was only lasting for a year. And she brought me with her. No one knew we were gone from the States. Mom didn't have a job, and I wasn't in school yet, so the only person that would miss me was my dad.

Taylor was the first and only baby to be born on this Island in the last the thirty years or so and survive. That's what our group's leader, Ben, said anyway. While not many people trusted Ben, with good reason, he kept his word with my mother's contract and allowed the three of us to leave.

"The Island's not done with you, Kayla," a man in white clothing said to me. The first thought going through my mind was not "how does he know my name?" or "What is he talking about?" No. The first thought that came to MY mind was "who is this guy?"

"My name is Jacob." Okay. Did this guy seriously just read my mind? "You will come back here at some point in the near future. You will see me again. Leaning against a tree. I have a job for you when you're ready."

Being four-years-old at the time, I had no idea what he was talking about. But I did see him again. At my high school graduation ceremony. Leaning against a tree just like he said all those years ago. The time to carry out this job he had for me was close at hand.
