My heartbeat rose, the sound of its pounding filling my head. My breath quickened as I gazed longingly into Ant's clear blue eyes.
"Really?" I breathed.
"Yep!" He patted my head, twirling a strand of my ginger hair between his fingers.
I felt like a hundred party poppers had gone off inside my stomach as I heard those words. I tilted my head up to kiss him when he added:
"Yeah, you're my best friend."
And smash. That was the sound of my heart breaking into a thousand tiny fragments.
