Fourteen-year-old Joshua Cannon has always been baffled by adult behavior. They wage wars for the worst reasons, kill millions of people in genocides, and pollute the environment without any regard for how it's wreaking havoc on the planet. They also divorce spouses they once vowed to love forever, embrace crazy conspiracy theories, and waste their time on the most tedious jobs. They even expect kids his age to protect themselves against school shooters with pencils. Almost everything Josh has read in his homeschool history books or personally experienced makes him wonder whether adults ever truly think about what they are doing in their lives. So, when one of his new public high school friends, Dexter Serano, angrily exclaims that adults are all just a bunch of dumb robots being controlled by their robot programming, he quickly realizes this is the only explanation that makes any logical sense. With Dexter's encouragement, Josh records a series of social media videos warning other teenagers about their adult robot overlords. Joined by Dexter and their classmates, Junior Dunn and Layton Moss, these posts soon go viral, turning the four boys' lives, along with the entire world's perception of reality, upside down.
