L is dead. He was killed by Rem, the Shinigami who died after deliberately lengthening Misa Amane's life.

It's been 10 days since Ryuuzaki's secret funeral. Light Yagami is sitting on a chair, where L used to sit. He deletes every possible evidence of the Kira investigetion so that no one will have access to the progress they have made these past few months.

But what if someone already HAS access? Someone L tried to hide, someone no one would find out about? A young woman.

After finding out about L's death, O is desperate to find Kira. And she already has the information she needs to believe that Light Yagami is indeed Kira. And she is willing to sucrifice her own life for the sake of her fiancé. L.

"A Death Note? Nice. Who'd be stupid enough to leave this lying around? I mean, it obviously wasn't real, but if I had a notebook like that, I'd be kind of protective of it, not leaving it in a random place like this. A drop of water landed on the cover. I looked up, noticing that dark clouds were rolling across the sky. Ugh. Better call my brother Teru for a ride. I glanced back at the notebook. Sorry to whoever this belonged to. It was mine now! As I picked it up, the world blurred slightly. The notebook flashed white-hot, burning my hand, but I couldn't let go of it. A sensation like I was falling came over me, and I blacked out."
