Six years ago, August 14th. On the way home from a girls' basketball club summer training camp. The bus had fourteen middle school girls including me. While going up a cliff side, the bus blew a tire and ran off the edge. Stranding my classmates and me in the middle of nowhere only surrounded by tons of trees. Causing me, Avery Jennings, to struggle to survive the forest and stay sane.

Growing up in a large, middle-class (if not lower) family had its challenges. More than I can account for actually. I had five older sisters and two older brothers. Throw me into the mix and that's a grand total of eight children living under one roof. If my mom hadn't stopped with yours truly, we would have definitely been able to form an entire soccer team with just our family alone. I can't recall much of my childhood and exactly how I interacted with each and every one of my siblings, but I can assure you that it was nowhere near a nice walk through the park. Even until this very day, I still stand by my statement. This is a story about a broken girl who fools the world with one simple action which requires less than ten muscles. Of course she has fears of her own, but most of the time she acts as if it's nonexistent. Cassiopeia revolves her life around keeping this picture perfect image of herself, the girl with perfect grades, perfect hair, and the perfect life. That's what's always been expected of her, which is why, since the fourth grade, she felt infatuated by Richie Tozier. He's everything she's told not to be, and isn't. It made her wonder how he could do it all so easily, up to the way he speaks, and down to the way he acts. Which is odd to her, because she felt she needs to despise him. But instead, she spent her days in class sneaking glances at him, and getting any chance to talk to him no matter how nervous she gets. Cassiopeia tries her very hardest to hide her crush from the glasses eyed boy. That isn't the case for Richie, though his crush on the girl only started in the sixth grade, he flirts with her at any chance he's get's. Which isn't much, due to their completely separate lives. The air smelled of gasoline and death. That's what woke me first. Not the searing pain in my side or the impossible heat coming from somewhere behind me. No, it was the smell. And then the memories hit me like the bus hit the tree. And I was rolling down the side of a mountain, surrounded by ten other screaming kids and three panicked adults. All of which had a ninety six percent chance of death. My eyes were open. My emerald eyes, so rare that only two percent of the population had them. And my throat was burning, and my skin was tingling. And all I could think about was the probability that I was dying. Scattered around me I knew were twelve other people with a ninety nine percent chance of already being dead. And I didn't look around to find out. Because I knew I was one hundred percent right.
