Abandoned by her brother, Akane was forced to live in Whale Island for the rest of her life under the care of Aunt Mito, Granny, and Gon Freecs. Leaving only a letter to explain her brother's absence, she believed that by becoming a Hunter, it would help raise the chances of ever finding him.
