Eternal Metamorphosis
Earth has been transformed into an unpredictable nightmare by an alien force, its landscapes constantly shifting in time. Forests become oceans, mountains dissolve into endless plains, and creatures born of chaos emerge in every corner of this broken world. But the greatest threat comes at night. Shadowy predators that hunt in the darkness, vanishing only when struck by light. In the midst of this chaos, a 20 year old woman struggles to protect the only family she has left: her 10 year old brother. Together, they navigate a world that reshapes itself without warning, battling both the horrors around them and the haunting question of what caused this catastrophe. Driven by love and relentless determination, she fights to keep him safe. Even as the darkness closes in. Elyra "This world tears everything apart. The skies, the earth, the things we love, everything is devoured by this merciless transformation. Forests turn into oceans, deserts into dense jungles, and what was once home yesterday is nothing but a shadow today. In this world, constantly dragging us into the abyss, I have only one purpose: to protect my little brother. He can't see how often I cry at night, how often the fear eats away at me. The shadows are the worst. They come from the darkness, they hunt, they consume. I've seen things I'll never be able to forget. But as long as I'm breathing, I'll keep fighting. For him. For us. This world wants to tear us apart, but it will never succeed. Not as long as I'm here."Complete

Drowning Fish by Heron Djenne Canvasback
Welcome to the future, written in the past. A mutant plague has rendered part of the population as zombie-like humanoids. They have a conscious mind though, but their craving for brains is a bit of an antisocial issue. Being mostly made up of impoverished individuals, it is not surprised that they got cured cheaply and lastly, despite being the main test subjects. Lochlyn is their representative. She just wanted an education beyond elementary school. A little luckier stricken part of the infected population evolved into reverents. Reverants have a feudal system over the zombies to "keep them in order". The luck may have had to do with them being upper-class when being treated. Basilica is their representative. At eighteen, she wanted body modifications, a job, and etc... as a rite of passage entering adulthood. At least that's what she was thinking. The more she was told no, the more she wondered what she could do. There are still uninfected humans left in the U.S.A. Most of them are middle-class. Katrina is their representative. She gained a family member, but lost two. She aches to find out why she can never return home again. The three eighteen-year-old females, along with their beaus, journey for truth, equality, justice, restoration, love, and freedom lead them to the same end: the capital. The Answer at the X
Siblings Isobel and Simon are on the last leg of a journey that started before they were even born. Faded words on a scrap of paper drove their parents to leave the safety of their home. To search for meaning in a dying mans words. Generations ago, something happened that changed the world. Levelled cities. Killed billions. The note is all that remains, containing a single message to those left behind. «We tried too hard to save the world» 'The Answer at the X' is a short story set in a post-apocalyptic world a lot like our own. The story is part of the Legacy Collection, a series-in-planning of short stories and novellas set in this world, that may eventually shed some light on what actually happened when it all came crashing down. --------------------------------------------- I'll be posting this story over the next weeks.
