A group of friends have to go back to Nebraska for a reunion. Not even out of Louisiana they run out of gas and ten miles away from a gas station and are in the middle of nowhere, only one house in sight. The house is abandoned and they are locked in can't use their phones, but have Netflix and electricity ONLY FOR COOKING, NETFLIX. Running water for cooking and showering and drinking. "You know, it won't physically hurt you to be nice for once." I crossed my arms in front of my chest and groaned. "I don't want to take a chance." the corner of his lips lifted a little as he finished his sentence. "Well, you don't hear me complaining. The view of a someone so desperately working out is not a delight either." I retorted in a weary voice. "I bet it isn't." he narrowed his eyes at me and commented. Ugh.. Why is he so damn annoying? I don't want Katherine thinking this. "Katherine I'm not here to kidnap you." She looks shocked by what I said. Katherine asked in a low voice. "If he's not, then what is he here for?" She's talking out loud to herself he concluded after that. Katherine wasn't paying attention to him. "To ask you out to dinner." Nicholas answers trying to get her attention so she realizes his intentions. "Katherine have dinner with me." "No, I can't" Katherine say after. He saw a look of confusion on her face. I'm being very clear. I don't see what she's confused about. "How do you know my name?" He hears her answering his own question. Why is she asking me this? I'm her best friend, of course I know her name. Nicholas didn't understand the previous question. "Because we've met before." The look that comes over Katherine's face is bewilderment. Lafayette is a 12 year old girl who spent most of her life in an orphanage. Her mom, a single mom of 4 children, including herself the youngest, struggled in a small, 3 bedroom room apartment. But when she was 4, you apartment building caught on fire. Her and her sister were saved by her next door neighbor. But he was to late for the rest. Her mom and 2 older brothers were burned to death. The last memory she had of that day was the crying and screaming for her family. When she was 6 and sister at 9, her sister got adopted and only she was left. But now, at age 12, living in an orphanage with a friend she made on the first day at that orphanage at age 5, in a the same situation. They both sit there, making friends and then watching them come and go. Lafayette thinks she has no hope for her. One day, another adoption week, many adults came and adopted children.
