From Across The Gay River

My father taught me how to skip stones across the surface of the water that the river next to my house contained.

I never understood why he had me do this.
I never understood why he left my mother and I for a man
And I never understood why I kept trying to throw stones across the river in an attempt to make it to the other side.

But the boy that moved a couple houses down will help me understand these things.
