The reading of the last will of wealthy Eamon Byrne sets off a murder spree and a treasure hunt in the Irish countryside, and antiques dealer Lara McClintoch is in the middle of the action. Lara's friend Alex is one of the beneficiaries of the Will, and she is worried he may be on the murderer's list. The Byrne family is feuding and there are hints of a troubled past. Lara enlists her new Irish friends to help decipher clues based on a poem of mythic Ireland, and risks her own life to follow the clues Byrne left behind.
The late Lyn Hamilton authored 11 mystery novels featuring feisty antiques dealer Lara McClintoch. Lyn loved travelling the world and learning about ancient cultures. Both passions are woven into her novels. She lived in Toronto, Canada, and worked in public relations and public service, with a focus on culture and heritage. The Xibalba Murders, first published in 1997, was nominated for the Arthur Ellis Award for best first crime novel in Canada.

Irina is an American archaeologist on vacation in Scotland. She discovers there is a ring of stones (called a menhir, if you care to learn about such things) outside of town, so she decides to go and explore. What she finds delights her, not only a henge (a stone ring) but remains of tomb mounds and she spends a happy afternoon exploring it. Just before she decides to head back to town, she lays down, unwittingly, in the shadow of a tall stone. She wakes, realizing not only had she fallen asleep, but now she discovers that something is amiss--she may not even be in her own time. This is not your usual "Outlander" story. A good portion is OC orientated, with Jamie making appearances and then vanishing from the story until he re-appears. When my OC finally gets to Castle Leoch, Gabaldon's characters make their appearances. I had fun writing this, it was the story I wanted to write, and it's Outlander themed.
