Kaia has been many things in her lifetime. Orphan, thief, swordswoman, slave, and now fugitive. Her hope for being free is all but gone when she finds herself awaiting judgment from a ruler she's never met. When her captor throws her down at the king's feet, she expects him to wave her away. To dismiss her. To give clearance for her to face the mercy of the gallows. What she doesn't expect is to come face to face with Soren. The leader of her old guild and the one she believes is responsible for selling her into slavery. Only now he's wearing a crown. Kaia has no desire to be at his mercy again, so she fights. She tries to flee only to be subdued by Soren's magic and caught in the middle of the dark forces that are at play. Kaia finds herself trapped once more in the clutches of the man who betrayed her, and now that he has her, he has no intention of letting her go.
