Brandon, a college student, needs to work on an environmental studies project and sugar maple leaves are part of it, so he and his friends head to Bumblebrook National Forest to get some. Unfortunately, all of the sugar maple leaves seem to have fallen off in every tree. All hope seems lost until Mark finds some at the very top of a tall sugar maple tree. He climbs up the tree and manages to grab them, but ends up falling off of the tree, hitting some branches along the way. When he finally slams to the ground, Brandon and Samuel check to see if he's okay. When Mark begins to bleed a little, the two boys go into panic mode. Thinking that they'll be blamed for Mark's death, they try to find different ways to cover it up before it's too late.

She's a loner at school, because her friends skip it and hang out by an auto store. But as the story unfolds, things only get worse for her. Her best friend is turning against her, and she's starting to recieve horrible nightmares that are connected with her life and the death of her dad. She starts believing that her nightmares give out answers to her dad's death and her future, and she starts to distrust people. And although this seems nearly impossible, and becomes a long journey, Heather is challenged by her school shrink to change and show her mom and little sister that she can turn into her old self again, that is, if she's willing to cooperate with getting help to change, in the blink of an eye.
