By the time Ella was six, most of the earth's population had vanished, and the alien race responsible had taken over the planet. Ten years later, she lived in an underwater camp, made up of the humans who survived the attack. Wanting to make peace with the aliens, Ella decided she wouldn't hide. So she assembled other people willing to take back the planet and left the safe walls of the camp, entering the deep dark dangerous world with only an egotistical jerk head by her side. Kole saved Ella and her brother from the wrath of the other aliens, and by injecting his blood into their systems, he was able to keep them safe and make sure they stayed safe by being able to keep watch over them. He's been in love with Ella since as long as he can remember, but she's human, and he doesn't know what his people would think. So when he finds out that she's left the safety of her camp, he runs after her, and finds himself fighting for her, because he realizes he has some competition. But Ella is entranced by the kind alien that helped her. She knows he's different, and when she finally realizes why she feels so drawn to him, gaining equality for the little humans who are left is the only thing worth fighting for, and he needs her as much as she needs him. So despite their different species, they work together, and it results in not only some freedom, but a little bit of love too.

Amethyst Jones has a baby sister named Iris Jones. "Amy" takes care of her sister as best she can, just like a mother would, in the household she is forced to live in. The twist? Her father, or the person she is led to believe is her father, seriously abuses her, mentally and physically. On her seventeenth birthday, she gets another twist. She turns into a sedan-sized wolf, and she never knew what she was until that moment. But she has a little problem, too. A pack of werewolves lives nearby and they find out about her existence. They want her to live with them, with their pack of wolves, but she doesn't want to, can't, for many reasons. See the problem? And her goal in life, for almost a year, had been to find an important person, but she isn't even sure if this person is still alive. What will she decide to do with her life? So many decisions, so little time, as the saying goes. Oh... That's wrong? Too bad. That's Amethyst's version. She will consider one person in this ordeal to be her friend. He's helped her from the beginning. And there is one more twist. You know those cliched werewolf stories where the girl is abused and then she runs away and finds her mate and lives happily ever after? Yeah, there's a twist on that, too. You'll see.
