"Deep within us all we're just savages. Hidden behind shirts, ties, and marriages. How can we expect anything at all? We're just standing up, Still learning how to crawl" Humanity is a cycle of destruction; whether it be themselves or the planet they live on. Mindy learns this in the most painfully cruel way possible: people are terrible. In which everyone needs a dose of reality.

A young teenage girl, haunted by the memories of her father's execution, attempts to escape a cruel regime by night. A solitary woman, abandoned by her husband, inadvertently plays into the cruel hands of 'the state'. In another totalitarian regime a traffic light fixer is dealt with brutally for admiring a sunset. All these characters capture the essence of what it's like to be disempowered and cruelly dehumanised at the hands of a heinous, corrupt power. This sharp collection of pertinent short stories throws an at times uncomfortable light on cruelty, injustice and persecution that is all too relevant today. But ultimately these stories celebrate the strength and determination to survive at all costs, that exists within all of us.
