Madeline Kane was nine when her father ran away because the pressure of losing a child was "too much". Not only did he leave with a despicable excuse but also with half of all the money that Madeline's mother, Lynn, had saved. When Madeline and her mother move to The Hapston neighborhood they begin to understand another meaning of life and struggle.
Ryan Slagle was ten when his parents decided to go to Splitsville, Divorce. It was hard to imagine the star soccer player could become broody. Before the divorce he was joyous; after the divorce he was angry. Ryan doesn't believe in love and what the fuss there is about it. His sister, Sophii is a bubbly brunette who loves to love. Ryan, Sophii and his Dad, Steve, learn that everyone goes through a tough time and that one needs support and dedication to rise back to the top.
Madeline and Ryan have problems that escalate when they realize they can't stand each other. AND they live right next door to each other.
