destero is an illegal drug that boosts your speed, intelligence, or strength for an hour, the only symptom being you don't know which ability you're going to get. The strifers are a group using this drug for the worse, many of them have learned how to control or at least predict which sense will be heightened, making them extremely dangerous to the public. At first they did simple things, robbing gas stations, jumping through cars on the streets, but after awhile, they started robbing banks, and somehow obtaining the drugs through a source that remains unknow. Of course this shouldn't matter to plain, Spencer Monroe, right? Well, not until she meets a potentially dangerous ally, but dangerous can be fun, right?

Melody doesn't fight. She doesn't run. She just knows exactly where to poke until the whole damn thing collapses. On paper, she's just another college dropout lying her way through life, dodging her father's expectations while barely keeping her secrets intact. But in reality? She's a walking time bomb-charming when she needs to be, reckless when she shouldn't be, and dangerously good at making problems disappear. After a bar altercation turns into something much bigger, Melody finds herself caught in a game she never planned to play. A game where sharp tongues can be sharper than knives, and the wrong move could mean the difference between walking away and never being found again. But she's used to handling people who don't play nice. After all, if life's a joke, she might as well be the punchline. The story contains curse words, blood and gang violence.
