Usha Cleve is a troubled thirteen year old. Her thoughts make her leave one of the only homes she's ever known. She lived with a girl a year older than her, but the girl didn't know she was partially human. Usha is a lonely shape-shifter with no knowledge of her own kind. To Clarinda, the girl she lived with, she was only her hamster. Usha isn't the only troubled person though.
Clarinda is fourteen and has been abused since she was nine by her father. She took a few self defense classes when her mother was still alive, but nothing could of prepared her for her father. While she is away at summer camp Usha makes the biggest decision of her life, and leaves. Days after Usha ran away, Clarinda returns.
Big changes are to come for those two girls. Danger following close behind them.
