Brigid couldnt open her eyes. The smell of smoke was thick and heavy in the air around her.
It was like the night of the fire... but different. She wasnt engulfed by the fire , it was near her, contained. but she still couldn't breath, she couldnt move.
Her arms were pinned at her sides in metal restraints.
she began to panic and thrash, the more she moved, the tighter her restraints got.
"Bri!"
She heard her name being called from deep within the woods.
but she couldnt call back against the constricting fabric in her mouth.
she heard her name again, Closer this time.
"Lilly? lilly!" every sound she made was muffled.
She fought harder trying to call out to lilly and yanked her arm toward her body against the metal ties, pulling it out of its socket.
Her scream pierced through the pine trees and echoed through the woods. It projected the cloth out of her mouth and forced her eyes wide open. Her eyes were crusted with blood and mud.
She was surrounded by a ring of fire.
Brigid screamed lillys name and she was there in an instant.
"Brigid I- Oh my god." her eyes grew wide and afraid. " she lifted her hand trying to put the fire out. but the fire ocntinued to burn, burning hotter than before.
lilly bent down to examine the ashes around the ring of fire.
"wolfsbane.-Brigid! My magic wont work. the fire is made on wolfsbane ashes. I can't get through."
Brigid couldn't breathe, she felt her lunges constricting and fear took over everything within her. she was numb.
"please.." she pleaded. "Mom, please- i know you're here- please help me."
For the first time since her mothers death, Brigid felt completely and terrifyingly alone.
but In the ring of fire, alone and fearing death, something began rising within her. Something more powerful and stronger than she has ever known.
