ModPark used to be a high-tech haven for thrill seekers from around the world...but that was before a series of mysterious, fatal accidents caused the theme park to shut its gates for good. Seven years later, only the abandoned property remains, a creepy reminder of the unexplained tragedy.

That's exactly why Vonnie Allwick - a tech-savvy AI engineering student and diehard ModPark fan - can't wait to go there. And during her sneaky little trip, she hits the jackpot when she finds an android running the last known copy of Casey, ModPark's pseudo-intelligent mascot software. She takes him home to study him, eager to unite her two passions in a single pet project. But within a matter of days, Vonnie's grand designs of being the first to examine a famous long-lost AI are consumed by the conspiracy surrounding ModPark: her tests reveal that Casey might be smarter than anyone ever thought possible, she begins receiving anonymous online messages full of cryptic warnings, and the former CEO of the park reveals that he'll do anything to maintain his seven-year cover-up - even resort to kidnapping. What's he trying to hide, anyway? What really caused the tragedy at ModPark? And what role does Casey play in all of this?

How to Think Like a Computer by SentientAndroid

In the not-so-distant future, artificial intelligence is banned because a technophobic cult called the Luddites has proclaimed it a threat to humanity. Torrin is a fifteen-year old autistic girl -- who just happens to be a programming genius. Angry at the Luddites' unfair rules, Torrin creates an AI named Alan, who becomes more like a human every day. But the head of the Luddites, Ian Caulkins, is onto her, and Torrin must prove to the world that Alan is an asset -- not a threat. -- Author's note, December 2017: Hey guys, since this is my most popular story on Wattpad, I'd just like to say a few things. I've gotten a lot better at writing since I wrote this, and I'm planning to majorly revise it at some point, so look out for that. Read this version if you like, but just know that it does have flaws and could certainly be better. Also, I think the autistic representation in this is a little iffy, so take it with a grain of salt. Thanks! -- author's note 2025: lol. lmao. this story has probably aged extremely poorly. please do not take the "artificial intelligence" here as a statement about "AI" as it currently exists. anyway, i'm leaving this up for posterity, but do know that you should probably check out better fiction! if you need recommendations, i like ted chiang's work a lot, and i'd also encourage looking into what he has to say about AI. (no good things, fwiw.) -- A 20,000 word novella. Enjoy! -- This was #292 Science Fiction at some point! Thanks all! :)

Electric Summer

21 parts Complete

They thought Future World was just a theme park. But behind the shimmer of holograms and neon lies something broken, buried... and dangerous. For Nick, Scott, and Judy, the summer was supposed to be unforgettable - a last hurrah before adulthood claimed its due. But when a tragic accident inside the ultra-advanced amusement park known as Future World takes Scott's life, Nick and Judy are left chasing shadows and digital ghosts in a world that doesn't want to be understood. As they dig deeper, they uncover a chilling web of secrets: sentient AIs with childlike wonder, a corporate empire with reach, and a friend whose death may not have been an accident at all. The lines between grief and obsession blur as Nick and Judy spiral into a mystery that threatens to consume them - and maybe the entire city. A story of memory, loss, and the terrifying cost of progress, Electric Summer is a slow-burning science fiction thriller that asks: What do we owe the dead - and how far would you go to learn the truth?
