A 16 - year-old girl named Skylar Springs has just moved, with her family, to a new house, a new city, a new state. Her life has been full of awful experiences like past breakups, major family issues, causing her to be horribly depressed. Incredulous to her unspoken decision, Skylar falls in love with a boy named Sam Walker. He is everything she wants... and everything she needs. Sam is very popular, and she isn't, but he gives her the time of day, and they become unlikely friends.
The problem: Courtney is a bitch. Also known as Sam's girlfriend. He only keeps her around as a toy, with Skylar doesn't know, and niether does anyone else, including Courtney. Sam doesn't know that he's falling for Skylar. She has a dreadful secret that Sam isn't aware of. Six months ago, Skylar was diagnosed with stage three brain cancer.
