"Back in the day, when I was still human and in fact a little girl, I was obsessed with The Little Mermaid. I loved the adventure, the romance, the singing, everything! But that was a long time ago... before I actually had to actually be in Ariel's shoes. Everybody knows that mermaids are nothing like that. And this isn't some Disney movie where everyone lives happily ever after." Tegan Johnstone is no stranger to the fact that life isn't a fairytale. The year is 2023, and the knowledge of the existence of sirens is widespread. These surreal and mystical creatures that lived peacefully for thousands of years beneath the surface of the Atlantic ocean are now being hunted. Many have been hunted for their hair and tails. They're worth a ton of money if the hunter could kill one and sell the whole thing, and thousands upon thousands of dollars if he could complete the near-impossible task of catching and selling one alive. So what happens when this human-turned-siren and her friend are ambushed by a small group of hunters, and one dives in after her?
